Saturday Morning in July

$3,240.00

This painting could have been named a lot of things, like “just before DFO arrived” but “Saturday Morning in July” means one thing in an outport community: fishing. The wharves and stages are full of the sounds of motors and people coming in with their 5-15 codfish and the sound of chatter while people fillet and share their catch. The weekend mornings during the food fishery are a change from the otherwise quiet harbour and the wharf becomes a place of community gathering, a whisper of what it used to be before the moratorium silenced communities like mine.
